Introduction: With clever placements of the V stitch and 9 dc’s all in a row, a few sc’s and ch’s thrown in together, gives this pretty little stitch pattern a big tick. You will need a bit of concentration to begin with, but the pattern does repeat it’s self, so it will become repetitive.

To fit: Newborn to 3 Months

Measurements approx: Head Circumference 13 to 14 inches, hat height 5.5 to 6 inches

Please note, by using a smaller or larger hook, you can make a smaller or larger beanie

Hook size: 3.5mm for newborn 4.5mm for 3 months+ US G/6

Yarn: 8 ply approx 50 gm’s US DK/Medium.

Sl st=slip stitch

Ch=chain

Sc = single crochet

Hdc= half double crochet

V stitch: The V stitch is (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc), worked into the st indicated by the pattern

 Please note! The beginning ch 1 and ch 2 of every rnd is not counted as a st.

BEGIN:

Chain 4, sl st to first ch to form a ring. Or use a magic ring.

Row 1, ch 1, work 12 hdc into ring, sl st to join in the 1^st hdc (you will join this way on every round)

(Increase in every st)

Row 2, ch 1, work 2 hdc into each hdc to end, sl st to join (24 hdc)

(Increase in every 3^rd st)
Row 3, ch 1, *work 1 hdc into the next 2 hdc, work 2 hdc into the next* repeat from *to* to end, sl st to join (32 hdc)

Row 2, Ch 4, work 1 dc in same space as ch 4, ch 1, work 1 sc in the 4^th, 5^th and 6^th dc of the 9 dc group, ch 1,

*work a V st (V st =1dc, ch1, 1dc) in the sc, ch 1, work 1 sc in the 4^th, 5^th and 6^th dc of the 9 dc group, ch 1,*

Row 4, Ch 1, work 1 sc in same space as ch 1, work 1 sc in next dc, ch 1, work a V st in the next sc, ch 1,

*work 1 sc in the 4^th, 5^th and 6^th dc of the 9 dc group, ch 1, work a V st in the next sc, ch 1*,  

repeat from *to* to end, skip 3 dc, work 1 sc  in 4^th dc, sl st into the 1^st sc of this round, (21 sc, 7 V st’s)

Row 5, Ch 1, work 1 sc in same space as join, work 9 dc in the V st space, 

*skip 1 sc, work 1 sc in next sc, work 9 dc in the V st space,* 

 repeat from *to* to end, sl st into the first sc of this round (7 sc, 7 groups of 9 dc)

Row 6, Repeat row 2, for a shorter hat finish here and go onto the hat edge rows. Measures approx 4.5 inches end of row 6.

Row 9, Repeat row 5

Row 10, Repeat row 2

For new born and using a 3.5mm hook and 8 ply yarn, your hat slightly stretched will be approx 5 inches in length.

Stop the pattern repeats to make the simple ribbed edging below.

Or continue the pattern repeats and end with a 9dc group from the pattern, for a pretty scalloped edging, (Using pattern rows, 3, 4, 5)

Row 11, Ch 3, work 1 dc in same space as ch 3, work 1 dc in next dc, work 1 dc in next ch 1 space, work 1 dc in each of next 3 sc, *work 1 dc in next ch 1 space, work 1 dc in next dc, work 1 dc in next ch 1 space, work 1 dc in next dc, work 1 dc in next ch 1 space, work 1 dc in each of next 3 sc,* repeat from *to* to end, sl st into top of the ch 3 space (1 ch 3, 54 dc)

Row 12, Ch 3, *work 1 dc in next dc, work 1 fpdc around the next dc,* repeat from *to* to end (1 ch 3, 54 dc)

Row 13, Repeat row 12 and finish off, or continue for length desired.

My hat is now approx 6 inches in length

Chickie Magoo made this and supplied her instructions for making one to fit a 12 to 18 month old size.

I used Moda Vera "Sorbet" which recommends a 5mm or 5.5mm hook. I have average tension so I used a 5mm hook. I added 3 curlicues and a hand painted wooden button instead of a traditional flower.
 The mannequin is a 20" head circumference and this will fit a 12 to 18 month old I think. It's 7-3/4" high and 17" wide
 

  I did one more increase round than the pattern stated, other than that, I followed the pattern till the last 2 rows which I finished off with a row of SC then a simple picot row of *SC/ch3/SC into base of ch3, sc next 2* I'm glad you like my results!

Introduction: This free crochet pattern looks intimidating, but don’t be dismayed, it’s just a trick with the yarn. Imagine 3 dc’s standing in a row, and then wrapping them 3 times around with hook and yarn, done! This wrapping technique then turns sideways all by its self, now why didn’t I think of that? Each wrap is separated with a simple V stitch, which gives a very uniformed and attractive design.

The entire pattern is achieved over only 2 rows, making it repetitive and easy to follow.

To fit: Newborn to 3 Months

yo over 1 more time and pull through all loops on hook, done!

V stitch: The V stitch is (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc), on the first row of the pattern this is worked into a 1 dc, on every other row of the pattern, the V stitch is worked into the ch 1 space of the V stitch, the dc’s on either sides of the V stitch will not be worked into, unless stated otherwise

Row 2, ch 1, work 1hdc in same space as join, work 1 hdc into each hdc to the end, sl st to join and finish off leaving a long enough tail to sew in and hide your ends.

My testers have said that they made their hat larger just by using larger hooks.

Robyns Bow Pattern

Start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 40 Chains.
Row 1~ Chain 2, skip 2 chains from your hook, then crochet Half Double Crochets all across into every chain.
Row 2 ~ Chain 2, half double crochet into every stitch across.
Row 3 ~ Change color. Chain 2, half double crochet into every stitch across.
Row 4-5 ~ Chain 2, half double crochet into every stitch across.
When you've completed all the rows, connect the two ends of the bow band together to create a circle and Slip Stitch them together.
Once you've slip stitched the ends together, flip the slip stitched part to the inside and fasten your yarn off. You don't want to trim your yarn less than 55"/140cm because you need a long enough tail to wrap around your bow.
Start of by slowly yet tightly wrapping the yarn around the center of the bow. You need to wrap it around the bow at least 15 times. When you've finished wrapping, knot it to the back of the bow.

You can use any combination of colors. This bow is for a 9 month old hat.
