Mosaic Crochet
Contemporary Sample Throw
The inspiration behind this mosaic crochet throw is from embroidery and weaving designs.
Some of the patterns just had to be turned side ways to achieve the design in mosaic crochet.
Then I had to decipher the lengths of the vertical patterns to make them in a uniformed design for the mosaic crochet technique.
Once I had them all graphed out I just had to work out how many repeats of each design I would need to make the pattern work.
So I went with the Mosaic Funky graph first
with the repeat of 48 st's for the pattern sequence I began with 100 chain stitches. 96 st's for 2 pattern repeats a side stitch for each side and a spare stitch for after and before both side stitches, which gave me a narrow border on the throw.
I crocheted over my end st's as I worked the throw.
I used Worsted weight (10 ply) and a 5mm hook.
Within the graphs I have marked the mosaic double crochet with a d, I've designed other graphs with an x, I thought it may be less confusing?
I separated each pattern with a couple of rows of single crochet made in the back loops also.

The first pattern repeat is a total of 48 pattern st's, the pattern is written with a ss = side stitch, 1 pattern sequence and 1 ss = side stitch. (In my original design I had an extra sc after the 1st ss and before the last ss, see my explanation above)
The ss = side stitch is a sc at the beginning of the row and a side stitch at the end of the row which is a sc that is made in between the legs of the sc, making the last sc in between the legs of the sc prevents your piece from slanting.
You will see lots of brackets in the written instructions.
For example (sc, dc) x 3, this means, sc, dc, sc, dc, sc, dc, it's much easier for you to read and for me to write.

Mosaic Diamonds Written Pattern
Based on 100 pattern st's, the written instructions in between the ss st's is repeated five times.
5 x 18 pattern st's = 90 + 5 ss + 5 ss = 100
Looking at the graph below and beginning from the right, I made 2 ss's + a further 3 back loop sc's for my diamond pattern to fit central in the design.
How ever once I got to row 3 and every odd row I did 3 dc's to make the design look better.
So from the right it reads, 2 x sc (which are the side st's), 3 x bl sc's, then follow the pattern until the last 5 st's which reads, 3 x bl sc's, 2 x sc's (ss's).
Once you get to row 3 and every odd row it will read like this,
2 x ss's, 3 x dc, then the pattern repeats until the last 5 st's, which will read, 3 x dc, 2 x ss's.

Pattern st's are between the * * and is repeated 5 times as per the 100 st's.
