Please note that this blanket is made with the popcorn st which is similar to the cluster st, one could always change the popcorn st to the cluster st, but it looks really good the way that it is.

Little Cluster Beanie Babe Hat. Free Crochet Pattern





Little Cluster Beanie Babe Hat. Free Crochet Pattern.

An easy 19 row baby beanie hat pattern with a little bit of decoration.
This is my grandson wearing this hat, born7/03/14, 6.9 lb
As you can see there is a little bit of room for growth, you can adjust this pattern for shorter or longer lengths



To fit: newborn,
Measurements approx: Head Circumference 13 inches, hat height 5 inches

Please note, by using a smaller or larger hook, you can make a smaller or larger beanie

Hook size: 4.00mm US G/6
Yarn: 8 ply approx 50 gm’s US DK/Medium
US crochet terms used
Skill level: beginner +
Tension: medium
Time: approx 2 hours

Stitches used:
Sl st= slip stitch
Ch= chain
Hdc= half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
Fpdc= front post double crochet

Special stitches used:

2 dc cluster st= yo hook, insert hook into st, pull up a loop, yo over hook draw through 2 loops only (2 loops left on hook), yo hook, insert hook into same st, pull up a loop, yo over hook draw through 2 loops only (3 loops left on hook), yo hook pull through all 3 loops on hook.
  
3 dc cluster st = yo hook, insert hook into st, pull up a loop, yo over hook draw through 2 loops only (2 loops left on hook), yo hook, insert hook into same st, pull up a loop, yo over hook draw through 2 loops only (3 loops left on hook) yo hook, insert hook into same st, pull up a loop, yo over hook draw through 2 loops only (4 loops left on hook), yo hook pull through all 4 loops on hook.





The little cluster st is worked over 2 st’s, make a little cluster in the 1st st, ch 1, skip the next st.
IE cluster round: ch 3, work 2 dc cluster in same space as ch 3, ch 1, skip the next st, *work a 3 dc cluster in the next st, ch 1, skip the next st, repeat from *to* to end, sl st to join in the top of the beginning 2 dc cluster


The beanie begins at the top of the head and worked down to the ribbed edging

Please note! The beginning ch 1 of every rnd is not counted as a st.
BEGIN:
Chain 4, sl st to first ch to form a ring. Or use a magic ring.

Row 1 ch 1, work 12 hdc into ring, sl st to join in the 1st hdc (you will join this way on every round)

(Increase in every st)
Row 2 ch 1, work 2 hdc into each hdc to end, sl st to join (24 hdc)

(Increase in every 3rd st)
Row 3 ch 1, *work 1 hdc into the next 2 hdc, work 2 hdc into the next* repeat from *to* to end, sl st to join (32 hdc)

(Increase in every 4th st)
Row 4 ch 1, *work 1 hdc into the next 3 hdc, work 2 hdc into the next* repeat from *to* to end, sl st to join (40 hdc)

(Increase in every 5th st)
Row 5 ch 1, *work 1 hdc into the next 4 hdc, work 2 hdc into the next* repeat from *to* to end, sl st to join (48 hdc)

(Stop increases)
Row 6 ch 1, work 1 hdc in each hdc to end, sl st to join (48 hdc)

Row 7 repeat row 6

(Little cluster stitch row)
Row 8 ch 3, work a 2 dc cluster in same space as ch 3, ch1, skip the next st, *work a 3 dc cluster st in the next st, ch 1, skip the next st*, repeat from *to * to end, you will end with a skipped st, sl st to join in the top of the beginning 2 dc cluster, (24 clusters and 24 ch 1 spaces)

Row 9 ch 1, work 1 hdc in same space as join, work 1 hdc in ch 1 space, *work 1 hdc into top of cluster st, work 1 hdc in ch 1 space*, repeat from *to* to end, sl st to join in first hdc, (48 hdc’s)

Row 10, repeat row 6

Row 11, repeat row 8, little cluster stitch row

Rows 12, repeat row 9

Row 13, repeat row 6

Row 14, repeat row 8, little cluster stitch row

Row 15, repeat row 9

 Row 16, repeat row 6

Please note you can make your hat longer than I did, just add more rows.

Begin hat ribbed edging, using dc

Row 17 ch 1, work 1 dc into each hdc of the round, sl st to join, the join will be in the top of the 1st dc of this round (48 dc)

Row 18 ch 1, work 1 dc into first dc, work 1 fpdc around the next dc, *work 1 dc into the next dc, work 1 fpdc around the next dc* repeat from *to* to end, sl st to join, the join will be in the top of the 1st dc of this round (48 dc)

Final row of hat, once again you make this longer.

Row 19 work 1 hdc into each dc to the end, (48 hdc), sl st to join and finish off leaving a long enough tail to sew in and hide your ends.

An easy 19 row baby beanie hat pattern with a little bit of decoration



To fit: newborn,
Measurements approx: Head Circumference 13 inches, hat height 5 inches

Please note, by using a smaller or larger hook, you can make a smaller or larger beanie.

For a 3 to 6 month size add another row of increases on row 6 following these instructions and adding 2 to 4 more rows for extra height.


Row 6 ch 1, *work 1 hdc into the next 11 hdc, work 2 hdc into the next hdc*
repeat from *to* to end, sl st to join (52 hdc)


Your baby beanie can be made in a single color or more, I made this one especially for the pattern instructions as the little x's stand out more so you can see the pattern stitch.
