My New Tank Top

I used a variegated acrylic yarn, it took 250 gms of yarn to make.

The Tank is made with hdc, the pattern I used is called the Preppy Tank from Crochet Today Sept/Oct 2007. It is made a little on the loose side to wear in Spring and Summer with a singlet top underneath. I found it a tad too short, so I added a fringe to give it a little more length.

I really like the stitch pattern used at the top of the tank.

I'm already onto my next Spring/Summer top, it's a project I wanted to do last year.

What you can do with Tunisian Crochet and links too.

this is what you can do with tunisian crochet
This my 13 inch Afghan Hook.

Now this is also a 13 inch Afghan Hook, which has 180 stitches on it. Wow! This belongs to Rachal-G from hgtv.

Please Note:
ALL Row Counts at this web site are done for the Afghan/Tunisian Stitch. ALL of these row counts can be converted for single crochet by reversing every other row to allow for the turning of the afghan.

A New Addiction. Tunisian/Afghan Crochet.

My extremely new experience with Tunisian crochet may be of a help to others who are trying this method first hand too. Below is a picture of my hook, which is called an afghan hook. It is a size AU 5 mm (US 8). It measures about 13 inches long and has a hook on one end and a stopper on the other end, it's cross between a crochet hook and a knitting needle. You can use a normal crochet hook for smaller Tunisian projects.
The starting off method is just like crochet, chain the amount of stitches that you need.
But now it looks like knitting once you have completed the forward pass, by picking up a loop and pulling your yarn through the loop and keeping every single loop on your hook.
Now this is the return row, pull yarn through 1 st first, then pull yarn through 2 stitches at a time until you reach the end of the row.
On the forward pass row, this is the front loop you will pull your yarn through.
This is a sample of the tunisian crochet stitch after a few rows.
Just as in crochet and knit, Tunisian crochet has several types of stitches you can use. Below I have alternated rows of TSS (tunisian simple stitch) and TPS ( tunisian pearl stitch), this pattern makes for a nice closed stitch and I believe is very popular for dish cloths.

Now before I began to making any thing I went to youtube and watched a couple of good video clips. So I sat down and tried it, but some thing was very wrong. When Katie had given me a quick lesson last Saturday, she was picking up the very top loop only and said that is how it is done. I picked 2 you tube video's to watch, which were informative. But I got more confused, why is my Tunisian crochet looking like I have just knitted a few rows, so I tried what Katie had shown me and there was the Tunisian look that I had wanted. I went and watched the videos once again and realised there is Tunisian Knit and Tunisian Crochet. Tunisian Crochet picks up a single front loop, where as Tunisian Knit goes through the middle, out to the back and picks up the loop and draws it out to the front, 2 very different methods. I had been watching a crochet and a knit video, no wonder I was confused. I have also come across some very good video clips on next stitch.

Friends From Ravelry

This is my careghan made by several very kind and caring members. They made this for me as they knew I was sick. The careghan is actually much straighter than this, I was just so excited when I received it and took a very quick snap shot of it.

This is my crochet hook holder from the swap we had recently. Cristina (aka Stramenda) made this for me.

She is a novest sewer, but she has done a great job, I just love it!

The Blue Granny Square Design

I chose a granny square that was not too plain, not too open and one that I could add a splash of another colour to and make it about a 6 inch square, I needed 12 of them to achieve the design I visioned.
A close up of the square.
The granny square design came from the Crochet Inspirations Pattern Book. The 12 squares are now joined into a ring.

This is the border crocheted around the bottom.
This is a close up of the griddle st used above the granny squares.
Now this is what I made. A nice, made to fit summer top for myself! I crocheted from the top of the granny squares and upwards in the griddle st and tried it on as I went along, I did frog it once, but all in all it fits me very well, it even doubles as a very short dress, LOL.

This is the border pattern I used, I found it on the internet somewhere and did not save the link. My pattern is closer in as I used the space between the dc in the granny square to keep it even.

Finally Finished Some UFO'S

These bags are the rest of what was left from the table full of projects, the rag bag embellishment and the gold toned rag bag. I haven't shown the purple back pack type rag bag before, so it's a first time here and it's finished.
This is where I chose to place the flowers, they actually have a little window behind them, I cut out a piece of cardboard and covered it with the material I used for the bag and sewed it onto the back of the flower.

This the bag fully lined with a piece of material I used in making the bag.

Here we see the gold toned rag bag, the handle is adorned with beads.

And here it is lined with the matching material I used in making the bag. With a pocket to use.

This is a new style back pack type rag bag, there is a slider on the handle which closes the bag and doubles for a spacer to use the straps for a back pack. It also has beads that surround the outer top of the bag.

Here you can see the bag is lined and the slider is at the top of the bag, ready for you to make it close.

I would say this little purple beauty would be great for the beach.

Guess What I am Making Here

It has nice light blue granny squares with a touch of white in between and I have progressed a bit further than these photo's, but I won't show any more photo's until it is completed. But you can try and guess what it may be.

I've lost my Mo Jo?

This is all of the crocheting that I have done in the past few weeks and I haven't enjoyed making any of them. It's been such a drag to pick up the hook and find a new project. It has not helped being in and out of hospital and back and forth to doctors and specialist's, it's so depressing and I can't find my mo jo for my love of crochet. I still have the table full of UFO'S to get to and that is not like me at all. Is it a slump or my medical condition or both?

This is the beginning of an afghan pattern called Sun Bonnet Sue
Sun Bonnet Sue is made first, then you crochet the square around her.
I lost interest and only did 4 squares.
2 small baby jackets, I haven't even put buttons on them yet.
This is a singlet type top for me for summer. I'm very pleased with it, just a little large on me, but it will be a nice loose fit for those hot Summer days. I'll wear a singlet top underneath. This took me a week to make, where I would have usually had it done in 2 days.
So how do I get my enthusiasm back? Not just for crochet but for every day things.

I HAVE A KNIFTY KNITTER

This is my new Knifty Knitter, thanks to Omadonna over at HG message boards. I have been on the board since my early days of crochet and my American Sisters there are always so helpful and complimentary too. I was looking for a knifty knitter on the webb with out much luck, we do not have this type available here in OZ so I asked for some help on the board and Omadonna had one she did not use. I paid her the shipping fee and a very small price for the knitter it's self.
Thank You Omadonna.

Pattern Book Stand

We've all got one of those large pattern books that is difficult to hold or stand while reading.
So here is my new idea.

Music stand holder becomes my new pattern book holder.

This was a recent second hand find.

Not only does it fold flat for storage, it makes a lovely decorative item in my room.

Update on Rag Crochet Stiffener

Nine days after my initial PVA glue experiment.
I've re-used the left over glue.
I just had it sitting in a plastic bowl with out a lid.
Firstly I warmed it slightly in the microwave oven, I soaked a piece of material I was using to line a basket that had been previously stiffened, then I simply put the material into place and waited for it to dry. Secondly I immersed a small rag crochet basket into the same mixture, this small basket is being used for a needle and cotton holder. I cut a rubber into half (for holding, sewing needles) and pegged it onto the glue soaked basket and waited for it to dry.
Success!
Both items dried as stiff as my first attempt with the glue.
My initial $ out lay was not in vain as I can re-use any left over solution.

The purple toned basket has the big bows attached securely to each end now.

The baskets are going to be used for gift baskets.

A unique and original gift.
