No, I did not notice the discussion about my pattern. Thanks for letting me know, I have read the discussion now and I am carefully planning my reply. My golliwogs are part of a non racist collection.
MAMMY is great...any suggestions on expansion to make Pearl into a MAMMY toaster cover?

My suggestion would be to crochet a chain length that would wrap around your toaster (loosely), join to form a circle, alter the pattern to work in the amount of chains that you have. Make the dress part to over lap the top of the toaster (mm, this part needs more thought). You could make a bigger head to sit on top, or make a flat head to place on the front panel.
I am working on a pattern for towel toppers, the towel topper will have a basic head to use for several styles of heads. One of the styles is a golli head, others include a little girls head, a puppy head, a monkey head and a few other styles will be included. Check back for these, as they may assist you with the toaster. Who knows, I may come up with the complete toaster pattern for you.
Love this pattern. It could also be used as a bag holder with a longer, perhaps maybe a wider skirt.

I Love your pattern, I collect Mammy ceramics and statuettes. I am going to try to enlarge the pattern for my toaster. Don't let people get you down, everything we say and do today someone finds racist. If they don't like the pattern, they don't have to make it.

I too, collect Mammy and Pickaninny items. I don't see collecting them is any different from collecting Americana.....they are a part of our history.

cats, I found your pattern here doing a search for knitted golliwogs, and I see you're in Australia too. What a shock last night on Hey Hey it's Saturday, when Harry Konik gasped at the 'comedy' Jackson Five dance act. It turns out Americans have loaded golliwogs with some sort of heavyweight racist symbolism, without letting the rest of the world know! My knitted golliwog toy 40 years ago wasn't a particular race. None of my toys or dolls were, and they were all different colours. Your pattern is a beauty.
